TIME PRISONERS

by Johnattan Rabarijaona
Expected 2019 – 26 minutes – France / Madagascar

Nosy-Lava, a small tropical island to the north west of Madagascar, has a peculiarity : the remains of a penal colony with a sinister reputation, built by the French in 1911 and definitively closed in the early 2000's. Yet, a few Malagasy convicts still live on the island, abandoned by all and left to themselves, like time prisoners… Samuel is one of them. In order to survive he fishes and cultivates what he can, with the means at his disposal. Compared to the atrocities he endured in the penal colony, Samuel seems to be satisfied with this modest Robinson's life. But even when the Malagasy penitentiary administration does not seem to be concerned about him anymore, why does Samuel not try to flee the island and return to his previous life ?
